Nimbus
Meet
Nimbus lives a perfectly normal life,
but his peace can get interrupted by
the wild urge to do something utterly
ridiculous…maybe even unhinged…
maybe worse.
CHARACTERISTICS
Does your brain ever just…unhinge? Like—what if I started
chasing people down the street, full sprint, no context? What
if I body-checked every slow person in front of me, stole their
belongings, sold them online using a fake name?
This limited-edition publication puts those intrusive thoughts
on display in a playfully grounding, tactile way while offering
tips for managing them.
Written, designed and produced by Michelle Ha (2025).

By blending humour with medical guidance, she hopes to turn an overwhelming subject into something comfortable and approachable in a form that feels honest, comical and interactive.

YOU THOUGHT WHAT? is a drawer-style book that illustrates the absurdity and commonality of intrusive thoughts, and offers ways to usher them out of your mind (at least for a little while).
Made from Xerox paper and millboard, this publication comes in a trifold sleeve that reveals the details of intrusive thoughts, including their causes and types. You will also meet Nimbus—your experienced (and slightly neurotic) friend—and his drawer of cards, depicting some of his most ridiculous intrusive thoughts and how he can manage them (according to mental health professionals). Plus, a set of blank cards invites you to journal your own intrusive thoughts, providing a way for you to navigate your mind’s chaos like Nimbus.
This publication is a volume within The Cloud Project—a collection of works inspired by the theme of clouds, created by students in COMD 305: Publication Design—and will be displayed
at Emily Carr University in the exhibition of the same name held from December 3 to 9, 2025.
